Calasiao police remind riders to wear reflectorized vests

FOLLOWING a string of vehicular accidents in Calasiao, the town’s police again reminded motorcycle riders of the importance of wearing reflectorized vests, especially when traveling at night or in poorly lit areas.

Calasiao Police Captain Godofrey Mercado made the call after multiple accidents were recorded along the stretch of Barangay Bued, including the recent fatal crash involving a family of four on board a freezer van that collided with a passenger bus. Only a three-year-old child survived the incident.

Mercado noted that the driver of the motorcycle that was being overtaken by the freezer van during that incident was not equipped with a reflectorized vest or other visibility gear, which may have contributed to the driver’s inability to see it in time, one of the factors now being looked into by investigators.

Mercado clarified that the road itself poses no major structural issues, but accidents continue to occur due to driver behavior, such as reckless overtaking and failure to follow traffic laws.

Authorities are also facilitating discussions between the parties involved in the fatal collision for a possible settlement. (Ahikam Pasion)
