THE Kabataan Partylist has called for a thorough investigation into flood control projects in Pangasinan, citing that P13.2 billion was allocated for flood mitigation in the province from 2022 to the current year.

Despite such significant funds, many towns and cities in the province have continued to suffer from severe flooding, the group representing the youth said in its Kabataan Partylist Pangasinan Facebook page.

Citing data from the Sumbong sa Pangulo website, 1st District Rep. Arthur F. Celeste has reportedly used the biggest share at P3.02 billion. The 6th District, represented by Rep. Marlyn Primicias-Agabas, follows with P2.7 billion. Districts 3, 4 and 5 received allocations ranging from P2.47 to 2.49 billion.

The town of Binalonan in the 5th District is one of the municipalities with the largest flood control budget, receiving P1.3 billion. Other top recipients were the cities of Alaminos, San Carlos, and Dagupan, and the municipalities of Rosales and Calasiao.

BET Construction and Supply was awarded several of the high-budget flood control projects in the province.

In recent months, a series of typhoons that enhanced the southwest monsoon triggered flooding in 28 localities, including Dagupan City, Agno, Umingan, Calasiao, and Alaminos City among the worst-hit. Pangasinan has four cities and 44 towns.

The PUNCH is waiting for responses to its requests for statements from local lawmakers and contractors involved in the projects.

The Kabataan Partylist currently has one seat in Congress occupied by Rep. Renee Louise Co. (Ahikam Pasion)
