VICE GOVERNOR Mark Ronald Lambino on Monday underscored the importance of knowledge-sharing between the provincial government and the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) for the establishment of a pilot saltern farm in the province.

The provincial board, with Lambino as presiding officer, has approved Provincial Resolution No. 212-2025, authorizing Gov. Ramon Guico III to enter into and sign an MOU with MMSU for the project.

The Ilocos Norte-based MMSU has been using the Bolinao Salt Farm, owned and operated by the provincial government, as a sample for its research, which will help guide the implementation of the project.

The MOU establishes a framework of cooperation between the province and MMSU to support the “Development of Sustainable and Climate Resilient Salterns” project, funded under the DOST-NICER Accelerating Salt Research and Innovation (ASIN) Center program.

The initiative aims to strengthen research and development efforts to boost sustainable salt production in Pangasinan and across the country.

Officials said the pilot saltern farm will help revitalize the local salt industry, increase the production of marginal and artisanal saltmakers, and serve as a model for other coastal provinces. (Eva Visperas)
