THE alleged mishandling of public funds by a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman and treasurer in Calasiao has gone viral on social media and the SK Federation Council of Pangasinan has called for level-headedness saying transparency and due process must be observed.

The issue involves SK Chairman Generoso Q. Barongan and his partner, the SK treasurer, who have been accused of failing to account for the SK funds in their barangay.

According to reports, the SK Council of Barangay Talibaew filed a complaint against Barongan for failing to account for the P752,000 annual budget for 2023 and P637,000 for 2024 as well as provide information on the remaining balance in the SK’s bank account.

In a statement, the SK Federation Council of Pangasinan acknowledged the importance of accountability and transparency in public service but stressed that financial matters and official records should be addressed through proper legal channels.

They emphasized the importance of bringing such concerns to institutions like the Barangay Council, the Municipal Accounting Office, the Commission on Audit (COA), and the DILG.

The group reassured the public that it will not ignore any issues, especially when misconduct or anomalies are proven. “Due process will be followed, and we will ensure that all necessary investigations are conducted.”

The SK Federation has organized a dialogue between the parties involved in Barangay Talibaew. Through proper mediation, a resolution was reached, and both sides agreed to work together to move forward and settle the matter amicably. (Ahikam Pasion)
