Body of pedicab driver who fell into Cayanga River found
THE body of Jimmy Narvas Fernandez, a 52-year-old pedicab driver who tragically fell into the Cayanga River, has been recovered by authorities.
According to reports, Fernandez was riding his pedicab while reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
A joint search, rescue, and retrieval operation was swiftly launched by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Philippine National Police.

Elderly man arrested for stabbing relative
AUTHORITIES have apprehended and detained a 71-year-old man accused of stabbing his cousin over a dispute involving trash in Santa Maria.
The incident occurred at the residence of Medrano in Barangay Dalayap, where the victim, 40-year-old Adonis Tomas Leonin, was reportedly attacked by his cousin, Pablito Caritativo Medrano.
According to police investigations, the altercation started when the victim was accused of dumping trash into the suspect’s yard. Family members rushed the wounded victim to the hospital for treatment. The suspect was arrested at the scene.

Man shot dead while sleeping inside barangay hall in Malasiqui
A 71-year-old man was shot and killed while sleeping inside a barangay hall in Malasiqui. The victim, identified as Sonny Meneses Caspilla Sr., was reportedly attacked by an unidentified assailant in the early hours of the morning.
According to police investigations, Caspilla was sleeping inside the barangay hall in Barangay Payar, together with two other individuals—Wilfredo Campos Mejia, 29, and Ramil Ocampo De Guzman, 25.
Suddenly, the suspect arrived, entered the barangay hall, and opened fire at Caspilla, hitting him multiple times in different parts of his body. The attacker then fled the scene on a motorcycle driven by an accomplice heading west.
Police are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect.

One nabbed in pot session, 2 others escape
THREE men were arrested during a police operation after they were caught in the act of a pot session in a house in Dalope Residence, Villasis.
Authorities responded to a tip from a concerned citizen who reported illegal drug use in the area. Upon arrival, the police caught a 36-year-old construction worker and his two companions engaging in drug activity. However, two other suspects managed to escape.
At the scene, police discovered 5.6 grams of suspected shabu, valued at P38,080,a Cal. .38 revolver with three live rounds, one hand grenade, an improvised glass tooter with alleged drug syrup, and six open plastic sachets with suspected drug residue, among others.

Farmer dies in hit-and-run
A 56-year-old farmer lost his life after being struck by a car driven by a drunk student along the National Road in Barangay Macalang, Dasol. The incident occurred when the victim was cruising on his motorcycle and was suddenly rear-ended by a car driven by a 23-year-old student from Infanta.
After the collision, the suspect reportedly sped off from the scene, leaving the victim lying on the road. The impact caused the victim to fall from his motorcycle, sustaining serious injuries to various parts of his body. Emergency responders rushed the farmer to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
Authorities launched a swift follow-up operation and were able to track down and arrest the suspect who was driving without valid driver’s license. The suspect is now facing charges related to reckless driving, hit-and-run, and driving under the influence.

Two drowning incidents recorded in Pangasinan
OVER the previous weekend, two separate drowning incidents were reported in different towns of Pangasinan, which claimed the lives of two individuals.
The first incident occurred in Pozorrubio, where a 37-year-old man, identified as Stephen, drowned after swimming in a river near Barangay Buneg.
According to police investigations, the victim had been drinking with his cousins near the river.
The second tragedy occurred in the town of San Jacinto, where a six-year-old boy drowned in the Angalacan River.
According to Barangay Captain Hermenigilda de Guzman, the victim went to the river with three other children to collect clams. However, the boy did not realize that he had ventured into a deeper part of the river, where the strong current swept him away, resulting in his drowning.
The other children quickly sought help from the barangay, and the Bureau of Fire Protection and residents launched a search and retrieval operation. The child’s body was found in a deeper section of the river and he was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
