TOURISM MONTH CELEBRATION

THE municipality of Calasiao is putting the spotlight on its people and heritage this September with two key events – Saysay ng Calasiao and Faces of Calasiao – as part of its Tourism Month celebration.

Mayor Patrick Caramat said the town is highlighting its rich cultural history through Saysay ng Calasiao. This theater production tells the story of the town’s heritage sites, particularly the Saints Peter and Paul Parish Church and the Señor Divino Tesoro Shrine.

“Calasiao may not have mountains or coastal areas, but what we treasure most is our cultural heritage. Through Saysay ng Calasiao, we want our people, especially the youth, to understand and appreciate our history,” Caramat told local newsmen in an interview.

While the show was initially intended to be free for everyone to watch, the local government saw an opportunity to turn it into a fundraising event for its scholarship program.

He added that they are partnering with universities in Dagupan and other nearby schools to expand scholarship opportunities for local students.

Alongside the stage play, Calasiao also presented the candidates for Faces of Calasiao on September 13. The event, a search for Mister and Miss Calasiao, features youth representatives from each barangay.

“These young men and women will serve as ambassadors of Calasiao. They will represent the town not just in pageants but also in programs and activities organized by the local government,” the mayor said.

Meanwhile, the mayor reported that the municipal government is on track with its digitalization efforts, with full implementation targeted by December 2025. “We are still in transition, but some departments, like social services, are already seeing the benefits of digitalization,” he said.
