Province-wide flood mitigation, management plan out soon

A comprehensive flood mitigation and management plan is set to be launched by the Pangasinan provincial government to effectively address the problem of flooding.

The planned flood control master plan includes all existing flood control projects to avoid duplication, ensure no ghost and substandard projects, and funds are effectively used through frequent monitoring and audit. (Mathew Pacheco)

31 communist rebels surrender

THIRTY-ONE members of a Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Ilocos Region surrendered to the authorities last August, including two who surrendered several firearms and explosives, while 27 others, who are members of the so-called CFOs, surrendered handguns of different calibers.

Police Regional Office 1 Director P/Brig. General  Dindo Reyes said the surrender of these rebels is proof of the success of the intensified campaign to win them back into the fold of the law. (Rona Racca)

Bike lane construction along JdV Expressway continuing 

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has assured the continuous construction of the bike lane along the De Venecia Expressway Extension as an additional infrastructure in Dagupan.

According to the DPWH, the bike lane not only seeks to ensure the safety and comfort of cyclists but is also a part of a wider flood mitigation plan in the city as it will be complemented with its own drainage system. (Mathew Pacheco)

PRO 1 nets P8.3M worth of illegal drugs in August 

THE Police Regional Office 1 (PRO-1) confiscated approximately P8.3 million worth of illegal drugs in 156 anti-drug operations across the region during  August, according to P/ Maj. Divina Albino, spokesperson of PRO-1.

Confiscated were  668 grams of dried marijuana leaves, 10,250 fully grown marijuana plants, some 1,000 marijuana seedlings, and 899.66 grams of suspected shabu. A total of 182 persons were arrested and charged as a result of these operations. (Mathew Pacheco)

Campaign against cheating vendors in Bani 

An all-out inspection of all weights and measures of all vendors in the Bani Public Market was undertaken by the local government to protect consumers from cheating sellers.

The move was conducted due to numerous complaints from buyers that vendors were using uncalibrated weighing gadgets. They asked the local government to install a “Timbangan nag Bayan” in a strategic part of the market where shoppers recheck the weight of their purchases. (Jam Victorio)

Families affected by Typhoon ‘Emong’ get aid 

The Bani Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) continues to distribute relief supplies, cash assistance, and construction materials to residents affected by Typhoon Emong in July this year.

This September alone, the local government distributed galvanized iron sheets as roofing materials  for the repair of houses of some 100 families that were destroyed by the howler.  (Jam Victorio)

DPWH to elevate road in Sitio Guibang

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) vowed to elevate a street in Sitio Guibang, Barangay Pantal, Dagupan City, that usually goes underwater every time there is high tide.

Residents called on the DPWH and the City Engineering Office to upgrade their low-lying street when personnel of the two offices visited their village last week. (Rona Racca)

Substandard project in Gueset exposed

THE Dagupan City government is looking for the contractor who built a road in Sitio Sabangan, Bonuan Gueset in 2022, which is substandard.

In an online live video of City Mayor Belen Fernandez, she showed motorists moving at snail’s pace when negotiating the road, which has turned rough. (Jam Victorio)
