THE Youth Division Tournament of the National Basketball League (NBL) Philippines reeled off at the Robert Estrella Sr. Stadium in Rosales, Pangasinan, on August 12, with 26 cage teams from across Region 1 participating.

NBL is a regional basketball league and is clustered into three categories: U21, U16, and U14, featuring an away-and-home format focusing on homegrown players to showcase their skills and provide opportunities to make a break in amateur and professional leagues.

During the league’s opener, CLP Team A of Basista took down Camp Ray Jun of Bayambang in the U16 Category, 81-65.

In the second game, the Next Gen Hoopers of Sison delivered a lopsided victory after clobbering El Gard Technical of Rosales, 108-88.

NBL President Rhose Montreal said the NBL Youth aims to produce top-notch players in the region while fostering the development of the sport at the grassroots level.

The opening ceremony was graced by NBL Commissioner Edward Aquino, NBL Region I Tournament Director, Christian Calaguio, Deputy Director, Sonny De Jesus, and guest PBA legend Danny Ildefonso. (Kim Gealogo)
