AUTHORITIES responded promptly to a bomb threat involving two schools in Barangay Minien, Sta. Barbara, on August 13, but found both sites safe after a thorough inspection.

Police are now working with the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 1 to preserve evidence and possibly take down the Facebook account that posted a warning on the barangay captain’s official account.

The post claimed that two time bombs had been planted at Minien National High School and Minien Elementary School.

The chief of Barangay Minien immediately alerted the Sta. Barbara Municipal Police Station (MPS), which then secured both school premises and coordinated with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and K9 Units of Pangasinan to verify the threat.

Authorities also worked closely with the head of Minien West Elementary School and coordinated with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) for additional security support.

This incident follows a similar bomb threat received by a university in Dagupan City just a day earlier.

The police confirmed that investigations are underway to identify the person behind the social media account used in spreading the threats in Sta. Barbara.

Authorities reminded the public that issuing false bomb threats is a serious offense and punishable by law. (Ahikam Pasion)
