DPWH asked to speed up roadworks in Dagupan
COUNCILORS NOTE TRAFFIC CONGESTION
THE Dagupan City council passed a resolution on August 14, urging the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to direct its contractors to fast-track the completion of all road and drainage projects in the city, noting that unfinished segments have been causing traffic gridlock.
Councilor Luis Samson Jr., author of the resolution along with Councilor Karlos Reyna, chair of the committee on public works and public utilities, cited that work is not yet complete on some portions of Perez Boulevard and A.B. Fernandez Avenue East, particularly in front of the University of Luzon, near Nazareth Hospital, and in front of the YMCA.
Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo proposed that contractors accelerate their progress by working not only during the daytime but also at night.
He blamed the unusual traffic buildup from morning to night along A. B. Fernandez Avenue East, particularly between Traffic Post No. 1 to Tambac Bridge, on the unfinished road and drainage projects along that stretch.
Samson also noted that the contractor of the road and drainage project on PNR Road, starting from the junction of Perez Boulevard and M. H. del Pilar Street, seems to have abandoned its contract, as there is no significant progress in that area. (Leonardo Micua)
