THE Pangasinan Heatwaves went full throttle when they torched the Parañaque Patriots in a commanding victory, 135-76, in the 7th Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) last August 7 held at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

During the opening frame, the Heatwaves demonstrated their deep shooting prowess, drilling five three-pointers early in the game.

Mike DiGregorio and Laurenz Paul Victoria steered Pangasinan’s scoring segment and connived with 14 points to carve a lead, 30-16.

Led by its second unit, Pangasinan continued to fire on all cylinders, shooting 52% from the field against the 26% of Parañaque. JP Maguliano, Ralph Robin, and homegrown talent King Gurtiza stepped up big for the Heatwaves to register five points each to stretch the gap at the half, 64-29.

In the second half action, Patriots’ Shaq Alanes tried to make a break for Parañaque off his mid-range connections with 11 points and four assists.

However, Joshua Fontanilla put on an excellent scoring display for the Heatwaves, with 17 points courtesy of his driving layups and three-point shooting to pull away dominantly.
