Meat vendors assure adherence to price freeze

MEAT vendors at the Malimgas Public Market in Dagupan City assured consumers that they are observing the price freeze that is in effect following the local government’s declaration of a state of calamity in the aftermath of widespread flooding.

They said they are hopeful that business will improve in the coming days so that they can also recover from losses during the 10-day flood in the city.

Chicken meat is currently pegged at P220 per kilo, while pork ranges from P320 to 390/k, depending on the part. (Joana de Vera)

500,000 families affected by typhoons in Region 1 

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 1 said more than half a million families across Region 1 were affected by the three successive typhoons Crising, Dante, and Emong.

Food and non-food aid packs were distributed to the affected households, and monitoring and assessment are continuing to deliver further assistance if needed. (Rona Racca)

Residents warned not to switch on appliances soaked in water

THE Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO)  reminded residents not to switch on electrical appliances that were soaked in floodwaters until these are fully drained and dried, and checked by expert technicians.

The PDRRMO said those who skip these safety steps are at risk of electrocution. (Joana de Vera)

COMELEC offices packed by registering voters 

THE 10-day voters’ registration, whether or not the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections will push through as scheduled in December, was carried out from Aug. 1 to 10 with a high turnout of new voters.

Pangasinan Election Supervisor Marino Salas said the Comelec and all its satellite offices were open even on weekends and holidays to accommodate registering voters or those seeking to reactivate their registration. (Mathew Pacheco)

Task Force Disiplina deployed in Bayambang 

ENFORCEMENT of several ordinances in the municipality of Bayambang is in full swing starting August in a bid to instill more discipline and make living in Bayambang easier for all residents.

A Task Force Disiplina was formed by Mayor Nina Jose Quiambao to enforce the ordinance regulating the use of plastic bags in the market, driving of motorcycle without a helmet, use of modified mufflers, ban on astray animals, videoke ban from 11 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., curfew on minors from 10 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., and truck ban from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Joana de Vera)

Ban on new piggery, poultry farms proposed in Umingan

 

A proposed ordinance seeking to ban the establishment of new piggery and poultry houses in Umingan was filed before the  Sangguniang Bayan (SB) amid reports that such existing facilities in the town have spawned swarms of flies and mosquitoes that affect the health of residents.

 

The SB also seeks to amend a 30-year municipal ordinance prescribing regulations on agricultural and backyard farms to give it more.  (Jam Victorio)

Ilocos Region lose P72.3-M worth of fish due to typhoons 

 

THE entire Ilocos Region lost 79 metric tons of fish valued at P72.3 million due to the widespread flood spawned by Typhoons Crising, Dante, and Emong that enhanced the southwest monsoon rains.

 

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources  (BFAR) in Region 1 said damage was incurred by 2,040 fishermen, including 1,011 from La Union; 393 from Pangasinan; 331 from Ilocos Norte; and 305 from Ilocos Sur. Additionally, 62 units of fishing boats were destroyed, 46 partially and 16 totally. (Jam Victorio)

One lane of Narciso Ramos Bridge closed due to retrofitting 

 

VEHICULAR flow along the Narciso Ramos Bridge between Asingan and Sta. Maria towns remains slow because one lane has been closed to give way to the retrofitting works.

Flood Brigada assessing conditions of schools in Calasiao 

 

THE  Flood Brigada of Calasiao organized by Mayor Patrick Caramate – composed of parents, teachers, employees of the municipal government and volunteers – is busy assessing the conditions of school rooms that went underwater for days due to the widespread flood in the town the previous week.

A week of clean-up is still needed, provided no further heavy rains cause renewed floods. (Nil Moyano)
