BM Rosario pushes PhilHealth Z Package access
FOR TRAUMA, ORTHOPEDIC PATIENTS
FOURTH District Board Member Jerry Agerico Rosario has proposed a resolution urging the provincial government to take steps toward enabling Pangasinan’s public hospitals to access PhilHealth’s Z benefit packages for trauma and orthopedic patients.
During the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on July 21, Rosario sponsored Resolution No. 402025, which seeks to request Governor Ramon Guico III to direct the Provincial Hospital Management Services Office (PHMSO) to coordinate with PhilHealth and the Provincial Board’s Committee on Health.
The goal is to ensure that provincial healthcare facilities can comply with the accreditation requirements needed to offer the Z benefit packages for skeletal injuries such as bone fractures and hip replacements.
Rosario emphasized the financial burden on constituents who are forced to pay out-of-pocket for expensive orthopedic plates and other medical implants, which are often not covered by PhilHealth’s standard case rates.
“Our hospitals should be able to offer these Z packages, especially for maxillofacial and orthopedic trauma cases,” he said. “The Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center is already implementing this successfully. There’s no reason our provincial hospitals shouldn’t be doing the same.”
He noted that no provincial hospital in Pangasinan currently provides the Z benefit package for such cases, depriving patients of much-needed financial support.
Meanwhile, Rosario also called for a Question Hour during the next regular session on Monday, July 28, to be attended by representatives from the Provincial Health Office and the PHMSO.
The aim is to seek clarification on several pressing health concerns in the province, including the rising cases of dengue and HIV, as well as issues in the implementation of the province’s GUICONSULTA program and the operations of local hospitals. (Eva Visperas)
