THE Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) in Pangasinan strongly condemned the widespread forgery of PWD identification cards in the province and called on all legitimate beneficiaries to register in the official database.

In a recent discussion, PDAO Pangasinan Jennifer Garcia said all their offices in various towns are actively addressing the problem, which is particularly rampant in one municipality that she did not disclose.

As of June 30 this year, Pangasinan has 65,326 registered PWDs, with the majority having physical disabilities.

At the same time, Garcia called on all business establishments to exercise caution when entering PWD ID numbers into their systems to avoid mistakenly identifying legitimate IDs as fake.

She said there have been instances where legitimate PWDs present an ID at pharmacies to avail of the mandated 20% discount, but the verification system fails due to errors in typing the number, resulting in the customer’s ID being mistakenly flagged as invalid.

She appealed for caution to ensure that legitimate PWDs receive their benefits. (Ahikam Pasion)
