‘Operation Private Eye’ offers rewards vs drug busts

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) recently launched ‘Operation Private Eye’, a program that rewards individuals or groups who provide valuable information leading to the discovery and apprehension of those involved in the production, distribution, or location of illegal drugs.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Isagani Nerez said the government funds the program and offers up to P2 million as a reward for crucial tips.

“We have an allocation for rewards under Operation Private Eye. The maximum amount we can provide is P2 million, but some conditions must be satisfied before the reward can be granted,” he explained.

There is also an incentive fund set aside for law enforcement officers who are directly involved in anti-drug operations.

Meanwhile, Nerez said they continue to intensify anti-drug operations in the provinces, especially after recent findings regarding the rising purity of illegal drugs, specifically methamphetamine, or locally known as shabu, being recovered outside Metro Manila.

Recent laboratory analyses of confiscated shabu in various provinces have shown a higher purity level, ranging from 84% to 96%. In contrast, the purity of shabu recovered in the capital region has significantly dropped to between 50% and 70%.

He noted that drug dealers in the capital have been mixing shabu with other substances due to a reported shortage in the supply of illegal drugs.

With the reward program in place, PDEA aims to disrupt drug networks across the country further. (Ahikam Pasion)
