THE Barangay Council of Dalongue in Sta. Barbara called on both the local government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to expedite the construction of the P47-million Dalongue-Sinocalan Flood Control Project.

According to Barangay Chair Angel Tamayo, work is currently underway in the area, with sheet piles being installed as part of the flood protection measures along the Sinocalan River.

Despite this progress, the council urged the contractor to speed up work and, if possible, complete the project before the onset of heavy rains and floods.

“We need this project to be completed as soon as possible, especially since our barangay is frequently affected by flooding, including areas like Tuliao and Alibago,” Tamayo said.

At present, stones are being placed over the dike to allow heavy equipment access to complete the project.

In addition to the flood control project, the barangay council has proposed regular de-clogging operations and the removal of water lilies that have proliferated along the riverbanks to prevent any obstruction in the flow of water, which could lead to river overflow and flooding in their community.
