Seen: Dagupan to become P2B economy by 2030

By July 8, 2025Business

DAGUPAN City’s economy is projected to hit the P2 billion mark by 2030, according to Councilor Jeslito Seen, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s (SP) Committee on Finance, Budget and Appropriation.

In a talk to newsmen after the SP inaugural session on July 2, Seen said this target will be achievable with the expected rapid growth from 2025 to 2028 under the fresh administration of Mayor Belen Fernandez, backed by a city council ruled by a majority of her allies.

Seen noted that in 2019, following the administration of Fernandez, Dagupan became the first city in Region 1 to join the billionaires club of cities.

However, the economic momentum was not maintained by the administration that took over from her from July 2019 to 2022, which was marked by sluggish growth.

When Fernandez was elected back to power in 2022, she propelled the economy to P1.36 billion as of this year despite impediments from an SP with a majority of opposition councilors.

The mayor said Dagupan posted a P200 million surplus in the first half of this year due to increased collection of taxes and fees from business owners, coupled with the local government’s moderation of expenses.

She said she will seek the authority of the SP to use the surplus for flood mitigation projects, emergency response, and more facilities and equipment for health services. (Leonardo Micua)
