SP passes resolution on MCH revival

THE new Dagupan City council hit the ground running with 10 resolutions passed and another 10 scheduled for committee hearings during their first session last week.

Vice Mayor Bryan Kua, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) presiding officer, said they intend to maintain a high level of productivity during their three-year term by holding sessions twice a week, every Tuesday and Thursday.

Among the first resolutions passed was a formal request to Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia to secure funding from the national government for the establishment of the Mother and Child Hospital (MCH).

Authored by Councilors Jose Netu Tamayo and Jalice Cayabyab, the proposed ordinance was passed because the P150 million allocated for the MCH under the national budget was reverted to the national government last year after the previous council failed to pass on time a simple resolution authorizing Mayor Belen Fernandez to sign a memorandum of agreement for the project with the Department of Health.

Meanwhile, Kua congratulated neophyte Councilors Christel Hillary Paras, Danielle Francine Canto, and Cayabyab for their active participation during the SP’s inaugural session. (Leonardo Micua)
