Parayno hints at possible 4th term run in 2028
URDANETA City Mayor Julio Parayno III, who won his reelection bid in the May 12 elections, hinted he may still run for a fourth term – since he will be unable to complete a full three terms in office because of his current one-year suspension and an earlier 90-day suspension imposed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
In his inaugural address shortly after taking his oath from Atty. Leland Lopez, the city’s register of deeds, at the Urdaneta City Auditorium last June 22, Parayno said he may consider running anew if a non-resident again aims for the position.
He was making reference to his competitor in the last poll, Maan Tuazon-Guico, wife of reelected Gov. Ramon Guico III, whom he beat by a landslide.
If there is no threat from an outside candidate, Parayno said he will be glad to settle as vice mayor to his cousin, reelected Vice Mayor Jimmy Parayno, who is facing the same suspension terms.
Parayno thanked the people of Urdaneta in his inaugural speech for supporting their son against a total stranger to the city.
Sworn in together with the Parayno cousins were Councilors Alfonso del Prado, Warren Andrada, Bles Sumera, Aurelio Agsalud, Rio Esteves, Tet Naguiat, Hero Sumera Franklin Villanueva, Onofre Gorospe and Jen Gandia.
Perez is the only candidate from the Maan Guico camp who won in the last election.
With the suspension of the Paraynos for one year, Councilor Rio Esteves assumed as acting mayor while Councilor Bles Sumera was acting vice mayor
By July 1, the acting mayor, based on succession provisions under the law, will be No. 1 councilor, Del Prado, and the acting vice mayor will be Andrada. (Leonardo Micua)
