Bangus farmers told to gear up for rainy season

INDUSTRY group Samahan ng Magbabangus sa Pangasinan (SAMAPA) advised bangus growers in Pangasinan to prepare for the rainy season and the onslaught of typhoons.

Jordan Carpio, technical head of SAMAPA, said bangus farmers need to elevate their embankments, deepen their fishing grounds, and set up high nets in their fishing zones to prevent slower fish growth, fish kills, and disease outbreaks.

He noted that certain areas in the province experience challenges with fish farming during the rainy season due to flooding or increased water levels.

“In Dagupan City and Binmaley town, there has already been a slight decline in milkfish, particularly in those areas near the river. Many of these locations lack embankments, so when the river water encroaches on their fishing areas, it adversely affects the health of the milkfish that they are raising,” he said. (Kim Gealogo)
