THE newly-installed traffic light system at the Sta. Barbara–Calasiao Junction is expected to be fully operational this week to improve road safety and reduce congestion in one of Calasiao’s busiest intersections.

The traffic lights, including pedestrian signal lights and a vehicle detection system connected to CCTV cameras, have been fully installed.

Cabling work for the CCTV system is still ongoing, and once completed and connected to a power supply, the traffic light system will be ready for full operation.

The system also includes a traffic counter, making the setup more efficient for monitoring vehicular flow.

According to the project engineer, a traffic study is currently being conducted to optimize the light sequences and ensure smooth traffic movement. Reflectorized signage and pedestrian lane markings have also been placed to enhance road safety in the area.

POSO Deputy Chief Bernard Mejia confirmed that enforcers will remain stationed at the junction to assist motorists and ensure order until the system is live. (Ahikam Pasion)
