PDEA holds ‘big fish’ list
NATIONWIDE ANTI-DRUG OPERATION ON
THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) obtained a list of drug lords behind the illegal drug trade in the country and is now working on the arrest of these individuals.
In an interview aired over Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan, PDEA Chief Isagani Nerez, a retired police general and lawyer, confirmed that the agency has captured the mastermind chemist of a major drug production and several other key figures in the drug network.
He added that the agency is intensifying efforts to arrest the other high-ranking government individuals who are behind the operations.
Nerez clarified that the goal is to arrest, not kill, those responsible for the illegal drug trade, following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
He also said the agency is working intensively to track the origins of the large quantities of suspected shabu recovered in waters off Zambales, Bataan, and western Pangasinan.
He explained that the main manufacturing or production areas of illicit drugs are currently in Myanmar.
He cited cases in Indonesia, where authorities seized two tons of suspected shabu, as well as in South Korea, where a ship carrying two tons of cocaine was intercepted. The crew members of the ship were Filipino nationals, prompting the South Korean authorities to coordinate with PDEA for further investigation.
Nerez noted that illegal drugs are a global issue, and the Philippine National Police treats this not just as a local issue but as a transnational crime. (Ahikam Pasion)
