5 persons die due to rabies
FIVE persons in Region 1 died from rabies as they did not seek treatment with anti-rabies vaccine soon after being bitten by dogs, according to the Department of Health-Center for Health Development Region 1 (DOH-CHD 1).
DOH-CHD 1 also reported that the number of persons bitten by dogs or cats so far this year has reached some 62,000 as it called on pet owners to be responsible in getting their animals vaccinated. (Mathew Pacheco)

Dagupan goes strict on ‘no-parking, no vending’ along side streets
THE Dagupan City government is strictly enforcing ordinances prohibiting parking of vehicles along side streets and vending along the sidewalks as part of efforts to minimize traffic congestion, especially in areas where road works are still going on.
Public Order and Safety Officer Arvin Decano urged the public to cooperate so that unnecessary traffic bottlenecks can be avoided. POSO was ordered by Mayor Belen Fernandez to also crack down on stallholders who have over-extended their stalls up to the sidewalks, denying the public use of these spaces. (Rona Racca)

More lifeguards, watchtowers in Tondaligan
THE Dagupan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) assigned additional lifeguards and put additional watchtowers at Tondaligan Beach following a drowning incident there about a month ago.
On the order of Mayor Belen Fernandez, five more lifeguards were added to the initial 10 deployed, while four more watchtowers were installed in addition to the previous six. Swimming has also been prohibited from 5 p.m. daily. (Mathew Pacheco)

Fisherfolk continue to suffer from red ride in Anda, Bolinao
THE lingering red tide toxin problem in the coastal waters of Anda and Bolinao continues to affect the livelihood, not only of fishermen, but also vendors and other stakeholders, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
The shellfish ban started on April 10 during the hottest period of the year, when there was a hastened growth of algal bloom, a tiny organism that produces the deadly red tide toxin (Jam Victorio)

Pangasinan police says 5-minute response time doable
THE Pangasinan police, headed OIC Police Provincial Director Colonel Ricardo David, are in accord with the five-minute emergency response time set by the new national police chief.
David said this emergency response time is attainable, and agreed that this policy will help bring back the trust and confidence of the people in the police force. (Mathew Pacheco)

Villa Verde Road again partially closed due to landslide
ANOTHER landslide caused by continuous rains in the Caraballo mountain range was reported at the Villa Verde Road in Barangay Malico, San Nicolas, the town’s Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office said.
As a result, only one lane of the road is passable to light vehicles. Heavy vehicles are rerouted towards Natividad, San Quintin, Umingan and Nueva Ecija. (Jam Victorio)

LTO taps LGUs for unclaimed new plates
THE Land Transportation Office Region 1 is now coordinating with local government units for the faster distribution of new plates that remain unclaimed at various district offices.
It also vowed to boost its digital services to speed up the processing of applications and renewal of vehicle registration and driver’s license. (Jam Victorio)
