Comelec receives 6 election protests in Pangasinan
THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) received 11 election protests from Region 1, including six in Pangasinan, specifically in the towns of Rosales, Tayug, Natividad, San Nicolas, San Quintin, and Sual.
Three of the protests come from Ilocos Norte and two from Ilocos Sur.
According to Comelec Region 1 officials, the majority of the complaints stem from candidates who ran for mayor or councilor who claim election irregularities or cheating, and most are calling for a manual recount of ballots to verify the results.
Provincial Election Supervisor Ericson Oganiza explained in an interview that these protests will be handled based on the set process, which covers the retrieval of the ballot boxes, and then designated revisors will review the ballots during the recount process.
Meanwhile, election-related grievances at the municipal level are filed with the Regional Trial Courts, while protests at the city and provincial levels, as well as those directed at the Comelec division office, must be submitted to the appropriate offices accordingly.
Protesters have 10 days from the date of proclamation to file their complaints. (Ahikam Pasion)
