AUTOPRO Pangasinan backs random drug testing for drivers
THE Alliance United Transport Organization Provincewide (AUTOPRO) in Pangasinan is in favor of the proposal to subject all public utility vehicle drivers to random drug testing.
In a radio interview on May 23, AUTOPRO Pangasinan President Bernard Tuliao said his group supports the proposal to help ensure public transport safety, but warned against potential bribery in drug testing facilities.
He emphasized the need for strict monitoring to ensure the integrity of the drug testing.
Transportation Secretary Vince Hizon recently ordered mandatory drug tests for all drivers of public vehicles following a series of fatal road accidents.
Among the worst of the incidents was when a north-bound Pangasinan Solid North bus triggered multiple collisions after it rammed into vehicles lined up at the Subic-Clark-Tarlac-Expressway toll plaza in Tarlac, leaving 10 people dead and 33 others injured. (Kim Gealogo)
Jeepney drivers, operators get fuel subsidy
SOME 3,500 fuel subsidy cards from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 1 were distributed to drivers and operators of public utility jeepneys (PUJs) in Pangasinan from May 26 to 28.
Alliance of United Transport Organization Provincewide (AUTOPRO) President Bernard Tuliao said an estimated 2,125 of their members benefited from the government subsidy.
Traditional PUJ drivers received a P5,000 fuel subsidy each, while those driving modernized jeepneys got P10,000 each.
LTFRB Regional Director Cristal Sibayan said the subsidy is intended to assist the public transport sector amid the continued rising fuel prices. (Kim Gealogo)
