DOH-R1 focuses on students for road safety campaign

THE Department of Health (DOH)–Ilocos Region directed its campaign on road safety among high school students, providing information and awareness on traffic laws, rules and regulations during the Road Safety Month Celebration held in Banna, Ilocos Norte on May 22, 2025.

Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said it is important to educate adolescents and young adults as they are at an age where in they are developing road-related habits, including driving and providing.

“According to the recent vehicular incidents, human error is the major factor that causes vehicular accidents, but it also meant to encompass broader issues, including the driver’s behavior,” she said.

Sydiongco also encouraged partner agencies and stakeholders for the stricter implementation of road use, especially in acquiring a driver’s license, to ensure that only qualified and responsible drivers are allowed on the road.

The DOH is the lead government agency for the country’s road safety program, and it has prioritized its implementation because road traffic injuries are a major public health concern and contribute significantly to deaths and injuries. (DOH-R1/CMU)
