Welder killed in Sison explosion

A welder was killed in Sison after an explosion involving a hydraulic nitrogen accumulator.

According to police investigations, the victim, a 49-year-old resident of the area and a member of the Mechanical Maintenance Department, was working in the compound of Northern Cement Corporation (NCC) in Barangay Labayug when the incident occurred.

The victim sustained severe injuries and was immediately brought to Northern Luzon Adventist Hospital, then later transferred to Sacred Heart Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival after several attempts at revival. The management of NCC is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.

Motorcycle rider arrested after attempt to flee checkpoint

A motorcycle rider was detained and taken into custody after attempting to evade police officers at a checkpoint in Barangay Cacaritan, San Carlos City. According to police reports, officers were conducting a routine checkpoint when they flagged down a 27-year-old motorcyclist, who was later determined to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

The rider, a resident of Barangay Talibaew, Calasiao, attempted to break through the police barricade but instead hit and caused injuries to one officer’s right hand. A chase ensued and the suspect was cornered in Barangay Tandoc. He is now facing charges related to his reckless behavior and violation of traffic laws.

Businessman stabbed over rice dispute

A local businessman was injured after he was stabbed in his arm during a confrontation over stocks of rice in the town of Infanta.   The victim was identified as Jaime Pedrozo Cabanlig, 67, a resident of Barangay Bamban. The suspect, Gabby Tiongson Mistica, 27, is a resident of Barangay Tubo-tubo North, Sta. Cruz, Zambales.

According to initial police investigations, the incident occurred while Cabanlig was riding his tricycle, which was loaded with rice. Suddenly, the suspect approached and attacked him with a bolo, stabbing him before fleeing the scene. Authorities said the altercation stemmed from an argument they had a few days prior, about a disagreement while loading rice onto a truck belonging to the victim.

3 hurt in Bugallon road mishap

THREE persons were injured after an SUV rammed into a house and two parked vehicles in the town of Bugallon.

According to reports, the driver, Alvin Criz Dela Cruz, 42, attempted to avoid a pedestrian, Bromeo Garbo Magat, 68, a resident of Barangay Magtaking, who suddenly crossed the street. As he swerved, Dela Cruz lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a house owned by Merly Velasco, 64, as well as two parked vehicles  — a motorcycle and a van owned by Ian Padilla Quezon, 45, a local resident.

Engineer dead in road accident

A 33-year-old engineer died in a road accident while driving a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred along the San Manuel-San Nicolas municipal road in Barangay San Bonifacio. The victim was identified as Rey Louie Bruno Gapuz, a resident of Sitio Bomboaya, San Bonifacio, San Manuel.

According to police investigations, Gapuz lost control of the handlebars, causing him to fall and crash onto the pavement. Emergency responders rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

2 dead in separate drowning incidents

A 34-year-old man drowned while participating in a team-building activity at Tondaligan Beach in Dagupan City. The victim, who was with his colleagues and family when the incident occurred, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital after drowning while swimming in a prohibited area of the beach.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. when the man, along with his two children, entered the water. While swimming, the man was swept away by strong waves. Emergency responders quickly rescued his children, but unfortunately, the man was submerged and later found unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

In a separate tragedy, another man drowned while swimming in an irrigation canal in Urdaneta City. The 49-year-old resident of the city was reportedly seen intoxicated while bathing in the canal before he was found floating face-up.  Authorities continue to investigate both incidents, emphasizing the importance of safety measures and awareness in water activities.
