Sual Mayor Calugay prevails over Rep. Celeste’s son
MAYOR Liseldo “Dong” Calugay of Sual, who is serving a three-month suspension but is contesting the order’s implementation during the election period, won his reelection bid on May 12, beating Arthur Celeste Jr., son and namesake of incumbent Rep. Arthur Celeste of the First District of Pangasinan.
Calugay, the standard bearer of the Abante Pangasinan-Ilokanos (API) party in Sual, will serve his third and final term of office after garnering 16,163 votes against 12,163 for Arthur Celeste Jr., a candidate of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).
Celeste’s runningmate, Vice Mayor JC Arcinue, who was sworn in last May 10 as acting mayor after his designation by Interior and Local Government Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla, lost to Calugay’s runningmate Max Millan
Millan obtained 14,578 votes against Arcinue’s 13,275.
Of the eight council seats, API got six and two by the NPC.
The young Celeste resigned from his post as councilor of Alaminos City and took residence in Sual one year before the election so that he can register as a voter of the town and qualify to run for a local position.
Meanwhile, Rep. Celeste won his reelection without any opponent while his other son, Arth Bryan Celeste was reelected as mayor of Alaminos City while his brother Boying also won as mayor of their native town Bolinao. A nephew of the elder Celeste, John, won as mayor of Agno, upsetting Mayor Gualberto Sison.
Boying Celeste, ran against Calugay in 2022 but also lost. (Leonardo Micua)
