Over 2,400 cops deployed in Pangasinan for elections
THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) deployed 2,408 policemen to the different polling centers in Pangasinan on May 6, coinciding with the distribution of the counting machines that will be used for the May 12 elections.
Police Provincial Director Col. Rollyfer Capoquian said apart from two police officers assigned at each polling center, there are also assigned augmentation forces from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Coast Guard to help ensure smooth voting and maintain peace and order.
Capoquian highlighted the importance of maintaining police neutrality, noting that officers with relatives or friends running for office were reassigned to avoid conflicts of interest.
The PPPO recorded 17 shooting incidents in the province since the election period began on January 12, but Capoquian said about 80% of these were not election-related and have already been resolved.
He reminded the public that a liquor ban takes effect on May 11, a day after the end of the campaign period.
Additionally, Police Regional Director Brigadier General Lou Frias Evangelista deployed extra personnel to meet the required 1:2 police-to-voter ratio in various voting areas. (Ahikam Pasion Kim Gealogo)
