Manay Gina aims to continue De Venecia’s legacy of public service
THE De Venecia family’s legacy of public service was hailed by five ordinary citizens, who gave testimonials of how their experiences reflect the impact of the former’s leadership in the Fourth District of Pangasinan.
Daisy Diaz, a housewife in Barangay Tiblong, San Fabian, said she made use of the financial help and encouragement of the De Venecias in putting up the Tiblong Flavored Salt, which is now sold in supermarkets nationwide.
“Ngayon, may kita na kami araw-araw, nakakatulong ito sa panggastos ng pamilya at sa kinabukasan ng mga anak ko,” she said.
As for Erika Sumintac of Barangay Bateng, Mangaldan, who used to earn a living by washing clothes for a family, said that through the financial assistance of P105,000 made available to their association under the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Sustainable Livelihood Program worked out by Rep. Christopher De Venecia, she put up a sari-sari store and now has time to take care of her children.
Arnold Fontanilla, a former overseas Filipino worker, revealed he underwent dialysis, and was given financial help four times a year for his maintenance medicines, which is a big help for someone like him who is jobless and sick.
Ren Christian Ibadan, a scholar of the De Venecias, was given TESDA training as barista, and is now the head barista of Jeprox Cafe in Dagupan City.
Gemmalyn Avenida, 42, of Barangay Lipit Sur in San Jacinto, thanked the De Venecias for the construction of a hanging bridge in their village, saying her children and their classmates no longer need to cross the river up to waist level when they go to school.
They all expressed support to the candidacy of Gina de Venecia, who is running anew to replace her son, Christopher, as 4th District representative.
Manay Gina, as she is fondly referred to, had previously served the post for two terms. She aims to bring back her platform LOVE (Livelihood, Opportunities, Overall Healthcare, Values Formation and Education). (Leonardo Micua)
