Alyansa: ‘Our future must be determined by us alone’
ALYANSA Para sa Bagong Pilipinas on Friday issued a firm statement of unity with the Filipino people amid growing fears of foreign interference in the May midterm elections, declaring that only Filipinos must decide the country’s future.
“Our future must be determined by us alone,” said Navotas City Rep. Toby Tiangco, campaign manager of the administration-backed Senate slate that was in Dagupan City last Friday, April 25.
The declaration was in response to disclosures from top national security officials about a foreign power’s alleged efforts to influence the upcoming polls, from coordinated online disinformation campaigns and covert support for certain candidates—moves described by many as a threat to national integrity.
“Any attempt to interfere in that process is a direct violation of our national integrity and must be condemned in the strongest terms,” he added.
Security officials testified during a Senate investigation led by Senate Majority Leader Francis “Tol” Tolentino, that the Chinese Embassy in Manila allegedly contracted a local firm to operate a troll farm pushing propaganda and undermining Philippine institutions.
“This is not just a political issue. It is a matter of national security,” Alyansa’s campaign manager said.
“We urge the proper authorities to investigate these reports with urgency, hold accountable those responsible, and protect the sanctity of our elections,” Tiangco said. (Eva Visperas)
