Water sports back at Bonuan Blue Beach

VISITORS and locals can again enjoy water sports activities at the Bonuan Blue Beach in Dagupan City with last week’s launch of AquaXperience Dagupan, for the 2025 Bangus Festival and to further stimulate the city’s tourism sector.

Mayor Belen Fernandez and Vice Mayor Bryan Kua led the launching of the program, for which the city government purchased jet skis, and banana, UFO and hurricane boats. (These were already available in 2018 during Fernandez’ previous term but the succeeding Lim administration did not maintain the program and left the facilities and equipment to deteriorate).

At the launch last Easter Sunday, local youths and vacationing students were the first to sample the jet ski and boat rides, with lifeguards and members of the city emergency response team deployed at the beach to ensure the safety of everyone.

The water sports program is intended to draw more tourists to the  three Bonuan barangays— Gueset, Boquig and Binloc – all located along the coast and have bound themselves into a “One- Bonuan” in vision and spirit.

Fernandez said these tourist facilities were made possible after the Supplemental Budget No. 2 was passed in November 2024 following the 60-day preventive suspension of three opposition councilors by the Office of the President, that enabled  the minority bloc to assume the majority role.

The mayor added  that other facilities expected to rise at Tondaligan Park, including the Skate Board Park, Mac Arthur Memorial Park, the One-Bonuan Pavillon, and a rest and recreation area to be built soon by the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Already in place at the Tondaligan Park is the more than six-kilometer board walk, courtesy of Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia, for jogging and biking, and will soon be fitted with solar lighting by the DOT.

The DOT already confirmed that the Bonuan Blue Beach is ideal for surfing, and has the potential to become another surfing destination in Luzon. (Leonardo Micua)
