Slight increase in Bangus price during Dagupan fest seen

THE supply of milkfish (bangus) in Pangasinan was deemed sufficient during the Holy Week, even when Catholics usually shun eating meat, according to local fish farmers.

Christopher Aldo Sibayan, president of the Samahan ng Magbabangus ng Pangasinan (SMP), said bangus growers in the province ensured that stocks were adequate to meet increased demand during the Lenten period.

Meanwhile, the SMP will be among those tapped to supply Dagupan City with milkfish during the Bangus Festival celebration, with a street-grilling event as one of the highlights.

Sibuyan said with the demand for this event, consumers should expect a slight increase in bangus price in the markets, but assured that overpricing will not be a problem because it is strictly monitored by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

As of last week, the wholesale price of bangus in the province was P150 to P160  per kilo. (Kim Gealogo)
