Dagupan City hits 52˚C heat index on April 7
A heat index of 52°C was recorded in Dagupan City at around 3 p.m. on April 7, the highest so far this year and categorized by state weather agency PAGASA as an ‘Extreme Danger’ level.
Jose Estrada, Jr., chief meteorologist of PAGASA, said at this level, there is a high chance for an individual to experience heat stroke if working outdoors, especially at the peak of the sun’s heat.
Following the high heat index in Dagupan City, the Pangasinan DRRMO reminded the public to immediately take medical actions when heatstroke symptoms appear, i.e., drinking more water, lying down in a shaded area, applying a cold compress, and elevate the feet.
Estrada said the extra hot weather in Dagupan City is partly caused by the city’s topography near the ocean, which is a source of additional humidity. (Kim Gealogo)
