Cops still guard Urdaneta city hall
ACTING MAYOR, VM ALREADY IN PLACE
THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has not yet withdrawn the policemen it deployed at the Urdaneta City hall despite the installation of the seventh and eighth ranking councilors as acting mayor and acting vice mayor, respectively, two weeks ago.
Two cops are still guarding the entrance of the city hall and another two at the exit door, while four other policemen are posted at the back of the building, where the vice mayor’s office is located.
The acting mayor is Rio Esteves, while the acting vice mayor is Blesildo Sumera, who were installed on March 31 by DILG Regional Director Jonathan Leusen Jr. per designations approved by DILG Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla.
The police personnel were deployed after Mayor Julio Parayno III and his cousin, Vice Mayor Jimmy Parayno, declined to accept the suspension order after they questioned its validity before the regional court.
The Paraynos, who are both seeking another term in office in the May 12 elections, have already accepted their one-year suspension and are now busy campaigning together with their entire team, which also include reelectionist councilors Esteves and Sumera.
The Parayno-Parayno team is up against the Guico-Perez team composed of Maan Guico and 5th District Board Member Chinky Perez-Tababa. (Leonardo Micua)
