No new ‘areas of concern’ in Pangasinan

THERE are no changes yet to the list of cities and municipalities in Pangasinan classified as election “areas of concern” or yellow category, which includes Dagupan and Urdaneta, and the towns of Aguilar, Binmaley, Malasiqui, Mangaldan, and Sual
P/Col. Rollyfer Capoquian, director of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO), said the Commission on Elections and the Philippine National Police have yet to consider including Sta. Maria town, where a barangay chairman was recently shot and killed.
The police has convened political candidates in Sta. Maria to help ease tensions.
Capoquian emphasized the need for dialogue to address miscommunications between politicians and their supporters as well as multi-sectoral support.
More police personnel will be deployed in “areas of concern” to maintain peace and order.
The PNP Pangasinan acknowledged that they are currently understaffed, but the Regional Office 1 has committed to provide additional support for the election period. (Ahikam Pasion)
