POSTERS and other display materials of local candidates are still not covered in the ongoing Oplan Baklas against national candidates’ campaign period.

According to COMELEC Pangasinan Election Supervisor Atty. Erickson Oganiza, the removal of illegally mounted posters of local candidates will only start on March 28.

Oganiza said that in accordance with Republic Act No. 3571 — an act designed to prohibit the cutting, destruction, or injury of planted or growing trees and other plants of scenic value along public roads and in public spaces, including posters affixed to trees will be removed.

The primary aim of Oplan Baklas is to ensure that all candidates adhere to the prescribed dimensions for campaign materials displayed in common poster areas, i.e., posters to no bigger than 2 feet by 3 feet, and streamers to a maximum of 3 feet by 8 feet.

The implementation of Oplan Baklas involves various government agencies, including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Justice, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Philippine National Police.  (Ahikam Pasion)
