GOVERNOR Ramon Guico III is set to deliver his State of the Province Address before the 11th Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) during its special session on April 5, 2025, also observed as Agew na Pangasinan (Pangasinan Day), marking the province’s founding anniversary.

The event will likely be held indoors at the Sison Auditorium in Lingayen in consideration of the scorching summer heat.

While the day is traditionally observed as a special non-working holiday in Pangasinan, Vice Governor Mark Ronald Lambino, the SP presiding officer, said a request will be sent to Malacañang to officially declare it as such in celebration of the province’s 445th Founding Anniversary.

Originally celebrated on November 30, Agew na Pangasinan was moved to April 5 following a 2009 study by the Pangasinan Research and Study Committee, which confirmed that the province was founded on this date in 1580 when it became a separate political unit.

In 2010, the SP enacted Provincial Ordinance 143, officially declaring April 5, 1580 as the foundation day of Pangasinan. (Eva Visperas)
