DepEd Region 1 remains steadfast vs claims
ALLEGED ‘GHOST LEARNERS’ IN ALS
THE Department of Education (DepEd) Region 1 officials restated their commitment to integrity and service amid accusations that ‘ghost learners’ were included in the education system.
The alleged irregularities went viral after a social media influencer, Dr. Toto Bunyog Causing, posted a video titled “EXPOSE – BILYONES na nawawala sa GHOST STUDENT sa ALS (Alternative Learning System) sa Pangasinan”.
Causing named DepEd Pangasinan II Division Superintendent Vivian Luz Pagatpatan, as the mastermind of the alleged irregularity with the participation of Jupiter Petilla (Education Program Supervisor for Alternative Learning System), Delia Patalud (Public Schools District Supervisor), ALS teachers Windel Russy Patalud, Roverlyn Castronuevo, and Mark Lester Angeles, along with the school admins of Kingsville Academy in Umingan town and Kingsville Advance System in Tayug town.
Causing based his allegations on a complaint filed by a certain Principal Marmie Bautista, alleging that the scholarship vouchers for the ‘ghost students’ in ALS were split and shared by the named individuals.
In an interview with Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan, Cesar Bucsit from the Public Affairs Unit of DepEd Region 1 described the named officials involved, as “sincerely dedicated to their roles.”
Bucsit said the claimed “ghost learners” in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) are mere “hearsay” and cited the lack of substantial evidence backing the accusations highlighted in Causing’s video, particularly about Principal Bautista implicating Pagatpatan as the alleged mastermind.
He clarified that the students were in the middle of a modular learning – which is why they were not in the school premises .“Kalagitnaan po iyon ng modular classes, kaya wala talaga sila sa school”, he said.
Bucsit urged parents and students to be cautious about rumors aimed at tarnishing the image of DepEd and assured the public of the department’s continuous monitoring and commitment to addressing any concerns regarding the allegations.
Meanwhile, Bucsit said that so far no legal action against Causing or Bautista has been considered. (Ahikam Pasion)
