Police probes Tayug pupil abduction attempt

 AN investigation is ongoing on the alleged attempt by still unidentified individuals to abduct a Grade 3 student of the Tayug South-Central Elementary School last week.

The school administrator said they are fully cooperating with the authorities on the probe and tightening security measures. They also called on parents to help ensure the safety of their children inside and outside the school campus. (Jam Victorio)

Onion price in Pangasinan soars anew 

THE price of onion in the public market of Lingayen soared anew to P170 to P180 per kilo from P100/k as new supply from freshly harvested crops have gone up, according to vendors.

The price of onion nationwide is expected to stabilize with the arrival of imported white and red onions, based on recent orders from the Department of Agriculture. (Rona Racca

New solar project approved by Labrador LGU

THE Labrador local government is expected to sign a memorandum of agreement soon for the construction of a new solar project Sitio Kadampat, Barangay Bolo.

Spraying versus army worms intensified 

MASSIVE spraying of organic insecticide is ongoing in 16 hectares of onion farms in Bayambang to save the standing crops from infestation caused by harabas or army worms.

The activity is done under the Department of Agriculture’s High Value Crop Development Program, in coordination with the Office of the Provincial Agriculture, Bureau of Plant Industry central office, Municipal Agriculture Office and the Bayambang municipal government. (Joana de Vera)

Prices of eggplant, other veggies drop

THE price of eggplant in all the markets of Pangasinan was now down to P40 to P50 per kilo from a high of P70 to P90/k during the previous week due to simultaneous harvesting in various farms across the province.

Most other vegetables have also become cheaper, including tomatoes and cauliflower, but the price of meat has gone up further. (Rona Racca)

 Pangasinan records 8.7M day tourists

TOURISM continues to boom in Pangasinan with 8.7 million day tourists and 430,983 overnight visitors recorded in 2024.

Pangasinan Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Maria Luisa Amor-Elduayan said the number of tourists in Pangasinan continues to increase, especially during summer and the Christmas season. Among the most popular destinations are Manaoag, Bolinao, Lingayen, Alaminos City, and other coastal areas. (Mathew Pacheco)

2 dead in motorcycle head-on collision 

TWO riders were killed when their motorcycle collided head-on along Arenas Boulevard in Calasiao at about 1:30 a.m. on February 8.

The fatalities were a 24-year-old man and a 17-year-old student who were cruising along the by-pass road from opposite directions at a fast clip. Both motorcycle drivers were thrown off from their vehicles due to the impact of the collision. (Joana de Vera)

More Filipinos refuse to find work and depending on ayuda

A survey conducted by IFM Dagupan shows respondents believe that many are simply depending on government ayudas instead of exerting efforts to earn a living by working.

A significant number also said there has been no change at all in their life status because of the continuously soaring prices of commodities, contradicting data that poverty incidence in 2023 dropped to 15.5% from 18.1% in 2021. (Jam Victorio)

Dagupan continues to push social, health services as major program 

THE city government of Dagupan continues to push social and health services as key programs with the help of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and other government agencies.

Last week, the Dagupan City government and DSWD signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand the benefits of indigent residents through the Social Pension Program for senior citizens, and Sustainable Livelihood Program, among others.
