Labrador hog farm ordered closed for environmental violations

THE mayor of Labrador ordered the closure of RAN RKP Hog Farm Corporation, located in Barangay Bongalon, following numerous violations of environmental regulations and for operating without a local government permit.

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) regional office issued a Notice of Violation to the hog farm on December 11, 2024, but the company failed to comply with the EMB’s directives, prompting local officials to take decisive action.

In Executive Order No. 5 series of 2025 signed by Mayor Ernesto Acain on January 31, the local government cited the corporation’s disregard for environmental rules that have been detrimental to the community.

Further, RAN RKP Hog Farm failed to renew its Mayor’s Permit which is required of businesses to comply with zoning regulations, health and safety standards and settle all liabilities to retain their permit to operate.

The cease-and-desist order, mandates the immediate shutdown of the farm’s operations.

“Despite being given ample opportunity to address the issues, RAN RKP Hog Farm continued to operate without a valid Mayor’s Permit, and their actions have severely impacted the health and well-being of the residents,” said Mayor Acain.

The farm’s operations have been linked to unpleasant odors and other environmental hazards affecting nearby residents. The local government expressed deep apologies to the community members. Acain said. (Eva Visperas)
