THE Pangasinan Abono Reapers ended their two-game losing streak after clobbering the Biñan Tatak Gel Beast, 90-78, in the 4th Pilipinas Super League President’s Cup last January 25 at the Robert Estrella Sr. Memorial Stadium in Rosales, Pangasinan.

Pangasinan’s veteran center Michael Mabulac had an excellent shooting from the shaded area with eight markers and twin rebounds in the first frame. On the other hand, Kenny Rocacurva returned the favor with an early 9-point spurt to produce the first deadlock of the match at 23 all.

In the second period, the Reapers relied on its second unit and logged in 18 bench points. However, Tatak Gel Beasts’ Pamboy Raymundo went on a scoring spree with eight points against the Reaper’s zone defense.

Former PBA champion Marc Pingris provided six points and two rebounds through his jump hooks to give Biñan a slim lead in the halftime, 49-48.

Heading to the third quarter, Mac Tallo took charge of the Pangasinan’s offense with his key drives to keep the game within reach, 66-67.

Halfway to the final period, a battle of attrition unrolled with 16 lead changes and eight deadlocks. Pangasinan managed to pull away when Jorey Napoles and Bong Galanza hit consecutive triples down the stretch to combine with 13 points.

Pangasinan leaned on the 16-point output of Napoles followed by the 15 points and nine boards of Mabulac.

Over at Biñan, Rocacurva amassed 20 points together with the 18 points of Raymundo.

As of the writing, the Pangasinan Abono Reapers remained in fourth spot of the tournament standings with 4-2 win-loss record. (Kim Gealogo
