LABRADOR town’s tourism sector and local economy are getting a boost with the establishment of a tourism center at the coastal barangay of Laois, a popular beach destination.

“It is with great pleasure that we begin the construction of our Labrador Tourism Center,” Second District Rep. Mark Cojuangco, who spearheaded the project, said during the building’s groundbreaking ceremony on January 25, 2025.

The event was attended by government officials, community leaders, and local residents, all coming together to celebrate the start of a project to transform the area into a top tourist destination.

The two-story building, with an initial funding of P10 million for the first phase, will have a wide veranda for visitors to enjoy the weather and the surroundings or for meetings.

Laois Barangay Chairman Valentino Arenas thanked Cojuangco’s support, highlighting the project’s significance for their barangay, saying, “This building will bring peace and attraction to our community.”

District Engineer Edita Manuel of the Pangasinan Second Engineering District shared an overview of the project, calling it both practical and symbolic.

“With its stunning sea view, it will be a place for relaxation, reflection, and community development. It will not only boost tourism but also create jobs and support small businesses in the area,” she said while Councilor Jojit Aquino highlighted the importance of preserving the town’s cultural heritage alongside its tourism development.

Labrador Mayor Ernesto Acain expressed confidence that the project would thrive, stressing that unity and cooperation would be key to its success. “This is more than just a building; it’s an investment in our future… If we work together, this center could become as successful as Boracay, but with the unique charm that only Labrador can offer.” (Eva Visperas
