A fire razed the Dalamax Poultry Farm in Barangay Gueset, Bugallon town early dawn of January 21, causing an estimated P23.9 million damage.

The fire destroyed the facility, which housed around 39,000 10-day-old chicks, each valued at P100. The modern design of the poultry farm, including its plastic ceiling, significantly contributed to the rapid spread of the flames and the high cost of the damage.

According to initial reports, the fire was first noticed around 12:30 a.m. when an employee on duty saw thick smoke emanating from the northwest corner of Poultry Building Farm A. Moments later, the employee heard three loud bursts.

Three workers on-site attempted to douse the flames with fire extinguishers, but the fire quickly escalated.

Firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) arrived at the scene and were able to bring the fire under control by 1:36 a.m. Despite their efforts, the damage to the farm, including the loss of thousands of chicks, was severe.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. No injuries were reported. (Eva Visperas)
