THE Pangasinan Abono Reapers asserted their scoring brilliance when they clobbered the Pilipinas Navy Aguilas in a blowout, 110-92, in the Pilipinas Super League (PSL) President’s Cup last January 10 at WES Arena in Valenzuela City, Manila.

Alaminos City Mayor Arth Celeste led Pangasinan to a hot start when he drilled three consecutive triples to lead the team with six three-point conversions in the opening period, 32-17.

At the second juncture, John Mark Ondevilla and James Mangahas capitalized on their outside jumpers to combine with 11 points for the Aguilas, but Pangasinan’s new recruit Harvey Pagsanjan hampered the Navy’s scoring surge with 11 points at the half, 62-39.

The Aguilas staged a 10-to-2 run at the three-minute mark of the third quarter to trim down the Reapers’ lead within twelve, 61-73. However, Pangasinan’s Marc Tallo and Bong Galanza provided a spark from the bench with five points apiece to sustain the advantage, 92-67.

Heading to the fourth, the Reapers held off the last ditch effort of the Aguilas through their zone defense, gathering three steals and two blocks to seal the game.

Pangasinan rode on the impressive performance of erstwhile Batang Gilas standout Harvey Pagsanjan with 16 points, six rebounds, and three steals.

Meanwhile, the Pilipinas Navy Aguilas collected 17 points and seven assists from Ondevilla, plus the double-double production of King Destacamento with 17 markers and 11 boards.

The Pangasinan Abono Reapers notched their second win in the 4th PSL season and is sitting at the second spot behind Caloocan Supremos in the conference standings. (Kim Gealogo)
