Pangasinan wallops Malabon in PSL, 80-57
THE Pangasinan Abono Reapers started out strong during their debut game when they outplayed Malabon Verdiamonds Jewelry Inc. in the fourth season of the Pilipinas Super League President’s Cup last January 7, 2025 at the Marikina Sports Center.
In the opening period, Ralph Robin steered Pangasinan’s scoring with his two three-pointers and registered quick six points. Verdiamonds’ Cyrus Tabi answered right back with his own nine-point cluster to threaten the Reapers’ defense.
Pangasinan’s new acquisition, Jorey Napoles, made his presence felt and delivered five markers to build an early lead, 30-17.
Advancing to the second frame, Malabon Verdiamonds retaliated with an eight-to-nothing run through the combined production of Jonas Tibayan and Nemesis Dela Cruz. Verdiamonds’ diminutive guard Tabi dropped four markers to trim the Pangasinan’s lead heading to the halftime, 44-35.
Coasting along the third quarter, Pangasinan showcased its renewed shooting prowess when Robin drilled three triples alongside the concerted efforts of Michael Mabulac and Jorey Napoles with six points at the shaded area to widen the gap, 65-44.
Pangasinan continued its hot shooting streak in the fourth, shooting 41% from beyond the arc against 35% of Malabon, to pull away and secure its first win in the 4th PSL season.
Robin poured in 14 points, two rebounds, and four assists for Pangasinan to gain the best player honor of the game.
Over at Malabon, Tabi produced a game-high 19 points alongside the 11-point output of Carl Peñano.
