Umingan rules NL Volleyball Qualifiers
THE Umingan National High School showcased their brilliance when they outplayed Team Lingayen in the gold medal match of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) U21 Men’s North Luzon Cluster; 25-17, 25-20, 25-21, last December 30 at the University of Cordilleras Gymnasium.
During the first set, Jake Pangilinan spearheaded Umingan’s scoring with his quick attacks and registered four early points to claim the lead, 25-17.
In the second set, Lingayen picked up their pace through Vhan Emhiel Roy’s three kill blocks to thwart Umingan’s offense. However, Umingan wing spikers Angelo Fernandez and Janry Galzote came up hot and responded with eight combined attack points to preserve their advantage, 25-20.
Heading to the third set, Galzote took control of the game with his cross-court hammers and finished with 13 points to secure the championship for Umingan.
The tourney’s individual awardees were Janry Galzote (MVP), Raine Mariano (Best Setter), Jake Pangilinan (Best Middle Blocker), Angelo Fernandez (Best Opposite Spiker), JM Rafanan (Best Outside Spiker), and Rey Anthony Repizo (Best Libero).
“This is another achievement for us as we bested 13 teams in the tourney, I truly believe our system is very effective and I will continuously enhance it as we face stronger opponents,” Umingan head coach Eusebio Solis said.
The Umingan National High School Boys Volleyball Team will advance to the PNVF North Luzon Cluster Finals and will slug it out against six top seeded teams in North Luzon division. (Kim Gealogo)
