Red pepper price shoots up to P1,000/k
THE price of pepper at the Dagupan City market becomes prohibitive, with the red variety costing P1,000 per kilo and the green ones, from P500-P600, due to short supply according to vendors.
They said it may take some more weeks or a month before pepper prices normalize. (Ronna Racca)

Girl caroler raped in Lingayen, suspect at-large
THE Lingayen Police is set to file charges of statuary rape against an 18-year-old boy who was positively identified by a minor girl to have raped her after the two came from caroling on the night of December 24.
The suspect, who is still at large, allegedly brought the girl to the seashore on board his motorcycle in Barangay Libsong East where he raped her at about 10:00 p.m. before bringing her home. The girl reported the incident to her mother who lodged a complaint against the suspect before the police. (Mathew Pacheco)

Mandatory drug testing enforced on bus drivers, conductors
DRIVERS and conductors of passenger buses at Dagupan bus terminals underwent random drug testing before they were allowed to go on duty during the last holidays, and none tested positive.
This was enforced by the Land Transportation Office, supervised by Regional Director Glorioso Martinez, along with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philippine National Police under the program “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos 2024”. (Ronna Racca)

Vape shop keeper accused of pocketing more than P400K in sales
A vape shop owner filed a complaint before the police against an employee for allegedly stealing P400,000 worth of sales since July last year.
Initially, the 24-year old suspect was accused of misappropriating his sales worth P19,000 since December 21 this year. Following an inventory at the shop, more than P400,000 worth of sales was discovered to be missing under his custody. (Ronna Racca)

Puto vendors lament poor sales
PUTO vendors said sales during the last Christmas season and the recent Puto Festival were lower than in previous years, due in part to restricted access as some roads were closed.
Jennifer Sanchez, one of the puto vendors of Calasiao, said they did not make a profit during these supposed peak seasons. Poor retail income, however, was augmented by bulk orders from resellers in other areas. (Mathew Pacheco)

San Nicolas logs 90K tourists in 2024
SOME 90,000 tourists visited the town of San Nicolas in 2024, based on records of the Municipal Tourism Office. Among the popular destinations were Malico Park along the Villaverde Trail leading to Sta. Fe, where 48,181 visitors were recorded; and Agpay Eco Park with 42,545.
Tourists also flocked during the holiday season to the Christmas in the Park at the town plaza and the Puyao River Picnic grounds. (Joana de Vera)

Car falls into cliff in Malico, San Nicolas
MEMBERS of a family whose car fell into a cliff along the Villa Verde Trail in Barangay Sta. Maria, San Nicolas are now all in stable condition following their rescue.
They were on a day-long sightseeing tour in Barangay Malico when the accident happened. The San Nicolas Police told IFM Dagupan that it is set to lift their car from the precipice within the week. (Joana de Vera)

Firecracker inspection before New Year

Mufflers used by motorcyclists on New Year’s Eve
INSTEAD of lighting up firecrackers, some motorcycle owners attached modified mufflers into their units to make noise in welcoming the New Year.
Such mufflers are banned under the law due to the resulting noise pollution, but the revelers said this is a safer option than firecrackers. (Mathew Pacheco)

THE Pangasinan police activated Task Force Baywalk to ensure the safety of people visiting the beaches during the holidays.

One dies, another injured in motorcycle collision
ONE man died while another was injured when their motorcycles collided along the Arenas Boulevard Bypass Road in Barangay Cabilocaan, Calasiao at about 10:00 p.m. on December 30.
Due to the strong impact of the collision, one of the motorcycle drivers sustained serious injuries on his head and died on arrival at a local hospital. The other driver sustained a fracture on his leg and is now recuperating in another hospital. (Ella Garcia)
