THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Pangasinan reiterated its reminder to the public to be extra cautious against fires during the holidays, especially those who leave their homes unattended during the celebrations.

Fire Senior Superintendent Jerlin Jerden Sales, BFP Provincial Fire Marshal of Pangasinan Provincial Office, said if individuals or families are on extended vacations, it is important for them to make sure that no electrical devices such as air conditioners, water heaters, electric fans, electrical filters as well as lightbulbs or other fixtures are left plugged in at home.

He said leaving electrical devices or appliances plugged in could result in overheating or overloading.

He also underscored that pets left at home unsupervised can start a fire such as when they bite cables or wires.

“Although continuous cooking cannot be avoided due to the holidays, it is also important for any family to focus on LPGs that must be closed at all times after use, including hoses that will be splashed with sauce or any substance, because if it is left with dirt, there is a possibility that it could leak gas due to rat bites,” he added.
