 Dagupan police securing busy holiday spots

 UNIFORMED police officers of Dagupan are on patrol 24/7, along with a number of force multipliers, in parts of the city frequented by residents and visitors this holiday season.

DTI intensifies monitoring of business establishments 

THE Department of Trade and Industry in Region 1 intensified its monitoring in all markets this holiday season to protect consumers, specifically from overpricing and substandard goods.

DTI Provincial Director Natalia Dalaten explained the series of inspection conducted by her agency is designed to ferret out unscrupulous traders who are taking advantage of unwary customers, or those selling goods that are below government standards or without the corresponding safety standards. Noche buena items stable — DTI 

A week before Christmas, the Department of Trade and Industry in Pangasinan observed a slight price increase in manufactured goods, except for noche buena products, in all markets and supermarkets across the province.

DTI Pangasinan Provincial Director Natalia Dalaten attributed the slight price adjustment of some of these goods to the increased cost of raw materials and the higher transport costs.

19 houses razed in Urdaneta City 

NINETEEN houses were razed to the ground recently in Poblacion, Urdaneta City, which was traced by probers of the Urdaneta police to unattended children playing with a match box. The fire quickly spread to adjacent residential houses, all made of light materials.

No one was reported hurt in the fire that gobbled up private properties estimated at more than P600,000. (Ella Garcia)

DOLE turns over boats in Bolinao

THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) turned over different kinds of boats to members of the Patar Boat Operators and Fisherfolks Association in Bolinao under the DOLE- Assisted Livelihood Project.

Turned over were two crystal clear kayak, a banana boat and a 5-8 seater double engine wooden motorized banca, all were to support to tourist boatmen. Data of the Bolinao Tourism Office showed tourist arrivals in Patar from January to April this year reached 333, 688, up from 275,439 arrivals in the same period in last year. (Jam Victorio)

Esplanade recreation center opens in San Carlos City 

A new recreationally sports facility, called Esplanade, was recently inaugurated in Barangay Bocboc, San Carlos City. It has basketball and tennis courts and a gymnasium as well as spaces for rent to interested traders.

The local government of San Carlos City foresees the Esplanade to boost tourism in the city once it completes all its amenities. (Jam Victorio)

Dagupan food strip shops enjoying brisk business 

OWNERS of shops at the food strip on Zamora Street are now enjoying brisk business nightly, which they partly attribute to the glittering Christmas lights installed at the City Plaza,

They said that thousands of people flock to the City Plaza nightly for photos and once done, they go to the food strip to dine or have a sip of cold drinks, then they await the midnight mass at the St. John the Evangelist Cathedral. Food shop owners expect more diners to come by Christmas and New Year. Catholics flock to Capitol Midnight Mass with Fr. Soc

THOUSANDS of Catholics attended the first of the 9-day Midnight Mass at the Provincial Capitol officiated by Archbishop Socrates Villegas last December 16.

In his homily, Villegas highlighted the need to always stay humble in order to achieve genuine and everlasting happiness, noting that there is nothing wrong with saying “Thank You”, “Sorry” and “Please”.  (Jam Victorio)
